Sensei presented with 6th degree Black Belt!! Congratulations!
On June 17th 2005, Sensei Daniel K. Dugan, received his 6th degree Black Belt from the Yoshukai Karate Alliance. Sensei Dugan did not have to test himself in front of a panel of Black Belts, but only dedicated himself to the practice of karate for over 33 years. Dan Dugan began his Karate training in 1972 under the direction of Hiroyuki Koda at the Lincoln Yoshukai Karate Dojo. Mr. Dugan became immediately aware of the physical and mental benefits of Karate and applied himself accordingly. Mr. Dugan received his degree of Shodan in 1975 and became an assistant instructor under Bob Borowiak. Mr. Dugan received permission from Mr. Borowiak to open his own school and did so on July 1st, 1976. After Mr. Borowiak’s retirement, Sensei Dugan received permission from Hiroyuki Koda to open more schools and thus became the Illinois Director of Yoshukai Karate. Sensei Dugan helped to open schools in Lincoln, Alto Pass, Atlanta, Springfield, Bloomington and 2 schools in Galesburg. Sensei Dugan taught under Hiroyuki Koda for over 16 years.

After 16 years of instructing under Hiroyuki Koda, Sensei Dugan left the Yoshukai Karate Association. This is simply written, but it had to be one of the hardest acts that Sensei ever had to perform. At the time, Sensei had one priority, to teach Karate. He believed that he could better serve this purpose under the direction of Sensei Mike Foster of the Yoshukai International Karate Association. Sensei Dugan trained under Sensei Foster for 14 years. During this time, all of the branch schools closed leaving only the Lincoln Dojo in operation, This did not matter though, Sensei has always said that, "it does not matter how many students I train, I will continue to teach as long as one person shows up to class".
