Under similar circumstances, Sensei Dugan left Sensei Foster to train under Hanshi Bill Dometrich of Chito-Ryu Karate. Sensei committed himself to a 5 hour drive and a noticeable change in style, in order to spread his love for Karate. After much thought and debate, Sensei Dugan decided that it would be best to leave Chito-Ryu Karate and open his own independent Karate Dojo. In November of 2002, Sensei Dugan started the Yoshukai Karate Alliance, This Alliance is designed to teach the art of Karate without the stigma of financial gain or powerful heads controlling the Karate ka’s every movement.

Throughout the years, Sensei Dugan has given up most of his life to the study of Karate. He has given up countless hours training tournament fighters, giving demonstrations, teaching clinics and relinquishing all of his spare time to give one on one training to those in need. Sensei has trained under 3 of the most distinguishable figures of Karate and willingly gives this knowledge to any who desire it. Sensei conducts his life in accordance with out Dojo beliefs and he continually shows his students that, honor and respect are not lost virtues. Sensei Dugan does not do this for financial gain or for a work of thanks; he does it to become a better person, a better father and a better teacher.

I was asked to write an article about how the panel of Black Belts came to the decision to promote their instructor, my article did not run in this direction though, because it was not our decision. The panel of Black Belts did not give a rank to their teacher; this promotion was demanded by Sensei Dugan’s Dedication to Yoshukai Karate and its principles.
