CAMP CANDY 2005

Self-defense class

Camp Candy is a 3 day camp for children living with Diabetes. On July 13th, 14th and 15th we were asked to present a small self-defense class for 9 wonderful children. A few of these children are already participating in some form of martial arts.

We taught some basics moves to the children. We also passed around some of the weapons that we use in Yoshukai. Most of the kids were really frightened by the looks of the sword ( which, by the way, we DID NOT pass around). We demonstrated 2 katas on the second day and 2 weapon katas for them on the last day.

On the last day we presented each child with a certificate. As each child was called up to receive his or her certificate the others cheered them on. We had a lot of smiling faces when we left; due to the excitement of the past 3 days.

Thanks again to Mr. Roberts for dedicating himself to another wonderful cause. Along to assist was Dave, Nykol and Jeffery Schreiber. Also, we would like to thank Mr. Roberts mom for coming to show her support and to take pictures.

It is always wonderful to have the opportunity to present to people what we, as karate ka’s, have learned from the Yoshukai Karate Alliance. It was a wonderful experience and hope we have the same privilege next year.
