Kumite

Kumite is when we make contact with each other in a controlled environment. This is done so that we can use the skills that we learned in class in a real situation. Learning our Katas and our combinations and then applying them to a moving target. Contact is made for several reasons; feeling the effectiveness of your technique against your opponent who is actually trying to hit you, to learn how to react with contact, and to condition the body. If you are under 18 years old, you are expected to wear sparring gear. This consists of head gear and rib guard. White belts do not need sparring gear when first learning how to spar. While sparring, black belts along with Sensei are watching for safety and giving instructions on techniques to use.
