KUMITE

POINTS TO REMEMBER

  1. Weapon alignment (hands & feet in line with opponent)
  2. Establish your "territory", avoid opponent taking any of it
  3. Angles, very important to use them when attacking or defending
  4. Avoid staying inside or angling into opponents "power - zone"
  5. Create openings, not waiting for them to happen
  6. Forward weapons are used to create openings for power techniques
  7. Never telegraph movements
  8. When in class, kicks must be snap kicks
  9. Avoid standing "toe-to-toe", "duking-it-out" or "trading a punch for a punch" mentality
  10. Stay sideways to minimize target area & to maximize hip-rotation
  11. When kicking with front leg, always kick forward from where foot WAS (#2)
  12. Minimize movements, using maximum-power techniques whenever possible
To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the highest skill. To
subdue the enemy without fighting is the highest skill.
